Costa Rica Racing Towards Electric Cars

Costa Rica's first 100% electric car has been launched by company Electric Cars of Costa Rica. The new car, called e-Zone Ev is a zero emission, environment friendly method of transportation. The car can travel up to 50 kilometers on one charge and it can charged at any household outlet. The car also features communication capabilities and security enhancements, making it a high tech addition to Costa Rica's green credentials.

Vice President Heads to Costa Rica

The U.S. Vice President, Joe Biden, is visiting Costa Rica this month in to hold talks with Latin American leaders. Biden will discuss the world-wide economic crisis among other things with authorities and diplomats in Costa Rica. Biden's visit will be followed by the Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, who is traveling to Mexico later this month.

$13 Million Investment to Help Costa Rica Airport See the Light

The Public Works and Transport Ministry (MOPT) has announced a project to reinforce the Juan Santamaría International Airport. Due to the cloudy sky at Central Valley, pilots often found a problem while landing into the airport. Now a new radar, firefighting equipment approach lights will be installed to help pilots when visibility is low. Thanks to the new improvements, air traffic controllers will be able to monitor flights within a 212-mile radius vs. the prior limited 60-mile radius.

Costa Rica's Manuel Antonio Beaches Waving the Blue Flags Again

The beaches of the Manuel Antonio National Park have gained Ecological Blue Flag status again. The Blue Flags recognize cleanliness and eco-friendliness in Costa Rican beaches. The flags were taken away before due to a risk of contamination and isolation of the beaches to preserve its status in order to be evaluated. The Environment, Energy and Telecommunications Ministry (MINAET) will install portable bathrooms for tourists before installing permanent bathrooms and a sewage treatment facility for the park.

Fashion Show To Aid Costa Rican Project

Students of Vancouver Island University are getting involved development projects in Costa Rica. The university originally established a project called: The Heart of Gold which generated direct trade of coffee between the rural region of Los Santos and the university. Now it is getting involved with the development of an ecotourism trail. The trail is 48kms and it goes from Santa Maria to Quepos. The students travel to Costa Rica and have been holding local activities in the university as well. One such activity is a Latin American-themed Fashion Show that will help fund and promote The Heart of Gold project.
