Situated on the southern tip of the world famous Costa Rica Caribbean coast, Puerto Viejo, known as ‘Walaba’ by the Creole speaking inhabitants, promises a true Afro-Caribbean paradise characterized by pristine beaches, a laid-back ambiance, coconut scents and reggae beats. The ethnic mix intensifies as foreigners are taking up residence here by the dozens, creating a diverse cultural landscape and the best culinary fusions in the country! This young and hip surfing town offers world renowned waves and an excellent nightlife. Nevertheless, peace and quiet can be found not too far away, in the deserted beaches on the road to Manzanillo. Nature lovers will also delight in the Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre Gandoca-Manzanillo which is only a beautiful bike ride away and featured in this Puerto Viejo tour package!
Speak to our team of professionals with any questions you may have live atWe will pick you up from the airport and take you on a scenic journey into the Costa Rica Caribbean to your comfortable hotel in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca.
After a scrumptious breakfast, you will be transported to Cahuita National Park which stands out for the beauty of its beaches, coral reefs, and tropical forests - all vibrant with life. Its extraordinary biodiversity is comprised of many ecosystems of great importance.
You will hike through the refuge which is covered by thick forests composed primarily of holillo palm, sajo and cativo, coconut palm, sea grape and heleconia – a plant that grows two meters tall and has very conspicuous and beautiful, brightly colored bractlets of red and yellow. Hidden in this tropical wilderness are countless animal species, many of which are endangered, such as the manatee, crocodile, tapir, caiman and paca. Above you in the dense tree growth will be hanging monkeys and sloths while some of the many bird species include the crested-mandible toucan, ornate hawk-eagle, red-lored amazon, manakins, parakeets, motmots, aracari and woodpecker.
Later, you will be shuttled back to your beach hotel where you will spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
Breakfast at the hotel will be followed by your choice of any of the numerous activities than can be found in this energetic beach town or by simply relaxing in the sands and soaking in the rays. However, we recommend adding one of our many guided excursions or activities to your day in order to complete your true ‘Walaba’ experience!
Today you will be greeted by your transfer where you will continue to your next Costa Rica or go on to one of our many other South American destinations or return home.
